WAYS TO FUND YOUR HONEYMOON

Do anything that leaves guests saying, "that's so them!"

Planning a wedding is no easy task, then include budgeting into the picture and your honeymoon fund can start to run dry. There are better ways to get a honeymoon fund then to just ask guests.  I've seen some classy and creative ways to fund your dream honeymoon without begging.

For money:

"As wedding gifts are bulky and we’re a little short on space, some money would be the ideal gift to help us buy our place!"*

  • The simplest way to go about it is to have a cute jar next to your welcome table or your presents is a simple way to collect money.  To make it even more special, add a picture of the destination or activities to show what it will go toward.

  • I've also seen couples use a shadowbox with a picture of the destination or plane tickets in the back while money is dropped inside.

  • Go digital; instead of a wedding registry, create an online honeymoon registry! Add a cute sign at the wedding to remind guests that you're not registered anywhere and gifts aren't necessary. Include a link on your wedding website or invitation so guests will know where to contribute!

  • To raise money for the couple, in the Hispanic culture, there's something called the "Money Dance" where guests can pin money on the brides dress to dance with her. This way, guests have to opportunity to see the bride (and groom if he wishes) during the reception, even if it does mean paying for it.

  • There has been a time where I saw a couple that would pass a cowboy boot around the tables for guests to add money for the honeymoon fund.  To make it not distracting or guests feeling pressured, pass the boot around during a slideshow or the first dance to make it heartwarming and inclusive.

  • If you want to go different direction, auction off tables to eat! When it comes to the reception and dinner time, people can't wait to get their hands on the food. See who is willing to gather their loot together to be able to get in line first.

For cards:

"If you were thinking of giving a gift to help us on our way,

A gift of money in a card would really make our day!"*

  • Have some kind of box or jewelry box to feature cards from your guests. Add your favorite flowers or centerpieces from the wedding to make the table more attractive.

  •  Use your guitar case or a vintage suitcase and decorate it with a cute garland, cute "cards" sign or a bit of lace.

Do anything that leaves guests saying, "that's so them!"  Feel free to ask family members if there is a traditional way to fund the honeymoon or maybe they have been apart of one that was rememberable. Whatever you choose, keep in mind your theme and audience; and pick something that you're comfortable with!
